Storm hits South Coast Hastings UK / Monday 10th March 08
Monday 10th March — The wind is a howlin’ and sirens are screaming … stay inside, dear … and put the kettle on.
… as they say “It’s an ill wind that blows no good!” So if anyone from Hastings Canoe Club is up for a bit of surfing … it should be rather good mid-week when the wind dies down! www.hastingscanoeclub.org.uk
Monday 10th March / 1:00pm – High Tide
A day that has seen Hastings and St. Leonards cowed by a spectacular storm. The scene just across the road from our offices was awe inspiring … a 20-foot swell and huge waves are rushing to the shore throwing the furious foam of broken waves high into the air to crash across the promenade.

Bags, road signs, lost scarves and hats scoot down the pavements like tumbleweed with brave or foolish pedestrians walking like badly-made marionettes. To keep their foothold and knowing they should head back home they cling to lampposts, fencing or the shoreline balustrades … but truth be told, the excitement of it is all too alluring … and many take up the battle, laughing breathlessly as they face the extreme of weather.

It’s an awe-inspiring sight
Whilst we sent our intrepid photographer out into the wilds, the studio refused to budge and watched the waves “safe and warm” from the Fuga foyer. Today was also the day we were due to have our glorious new office signage installed on the exterior of our building ... Sign man hasn’t shown up yet, guess he’s running late.

We're quite lucky as immediately in front of our office the beach is rather wide and the huge waves are being dissipated before they hit the sea wall – however further up the seafront the waves are breaching the wall and the surrounding roads have been closed.
