The term “Conscious Capitalism” was coined by Nobel Laureate, Muhammad Yunus, who set up the Grameen “village” bank to help the rural poor.

He has also said: “I’m encouraging young people to become social business entrepreneurs and contribute to the world, rather than just making money.

Making money is no fun—contributing to and changing the world is a lot more fun.“

GHK is one of those organisations and businesses that work tirelessly to develop and deliver solutions to issues that (generally) only attract mass attention (and action) when a “pop-star” puts on a charitable concert, or our “news agencies” dramatically deliver a disaster into our living rooms!

Conscious Capitalism
GHK works with governments and global corporations to help achieve sustainable and inclusive growth. GHK focus on maximising the social and economic benefits of development while minimising the potential adverse impacts on society and the environment.

GHK also designs and implements urban and regional development, planning and management projects and programmes, working with clients to create the conditions that can stimulate equitable and sustainable economic growth which will in turn contribute to improving the living conditions of the poor and marginalised, particularly in a context of rapid urbanisation.

A new model for 21st Century Business.
Capitalism may be a “dirty word” to some, but in truth the 20th Century witnessed a monumental battle between passionately opposed views on how we structure our economies and societies—and for better or worse, “capitalism” (in one form or another), won!

Although this economic structure prevailed, the stereotypical perception of the capitalist ideology (“profit above everything”) also caused its own problems, alienating citizens and intellectuals the world over. This inevitably (via the “influence of consumer behaviour”) lead progressive corporations to explore a new doctrine that no longer puts profits above everything else, but works to a “triple bottom line (3BL)”, considering the effects of what it does on society and the environment as well.

This triple bottom line (3BL), “people, planet, profit” or “the three pillars” underpin the development structure that GHK's services and work, support and implement.

GHK works with governments, international financial and development institutions, the private sector and civil society.

For the private sector, this often means working with clients during the strategic planning process, preparation of investment plans and due diligence for investment projects to assist in harnessing their positive development impacts.

For governments, it means working together to prepare strategies and plans to stimulate inclusive growth, ensuring the sustainable delivery of basic services and designing plans and mechanisms to secure positive fiscal impacts that contribute to longer term public policy goals.

For civil society, it means helping grow their social and financial capital.
